bhaktiṁ muhuḥ pravahatāṁ tvayi me prasaṅgo bhūyād ananta mahatām amalāśayānām yenāñjasolbaṇam uru-vyasanaṁ bhavābdhiṁ neṣye bhavad-guṇa-kathāmṛta-pāna-mattaḥ
(Dhruva to the Lord) O Lord, grant me the blest society Of those pure hearted who delight in thee; Who are with unbounded glory endued, Immersed in currents of beatitude; By such association easily, I shall cross this dread existential sea; Intoxicating sweets I shall imbibe, Of those accounts which thy glory describe. 15 (4.9.11)
te na smaranty atitarāṁ priyam īśa martyaṁ ye cānv adaḥ suta-suhṛd-gṛha-vitta-dārāḥ ye tv abja-nābha bhavadīya-padāravinda- saugandhya-lubdha-hṛdayeṣu kṛta-prasaṅgāḥ
O Lotus-naveled Lord, those who attain The company of those whose hearts remain Engrossed in the delightsome fragrance sweet, Associated with they lotus-feet, No longer care for body, home of life, For sons, for friends, prosperity, nor wife. 16 (4.9.12)

(Prithu's advice to his subjects) In dust of their lotus-feet I bow down, Of those great ones, and bear it on my crown; For who to do so daily is resolved, Attains virtues; his sins are all absolved. 17 (4.21.43)
saṅgamaḥ khalu sādhūnām ubhayeṣāṁ ca sammataḥ yat-sambhāṣaṇa-sampraśnaḥ sarveṣāṁ vitanoti śam
(Sanat Kumara to Prithu) From both these sources benefits accrue, Whence blessings to all those concerned ensue; From the one who makes sound inquiries, And from the other by his just replies. 18 (4.22.19)
athānaghāṅghres tava kīrti-tīrthayor antar-bahiḥ-snāna-vidhūta-pāpmanām bhūteṣv anukrośa-susattva-śīlināṁ syāt saṅgamo ’nugraha eṣa nas tava
(Rudra instructs the Pracetas) Thy feet, O Lord, all sins eradicate, Within the heart of those who meditate, And outwardly, bathing at holy shrines, And thereby rid of sins a creature shines. But as for that, allow us an it please, Company of thine ardent devotees. 19 (4.24.58)

yatreḍyante kathā mṛṣṭās tṛṣṇāyāḥ praśamo yataḥ nirvairaṁ yatra bhūteṣu nodvego yatra kaścana
(The Pracetas to the Lord) Wherever pure accounts are heard and graced, The thirst for worldly pleasure is effaced; There creatures bide sans animosity, Sans disturbance and sans anxiety. 20 (4.30.35)
yatra nārāyaṇaḥ sākṣād bhagavān nyāsināṁ gatiḥ saṁstūyate sat-kathāsu mukta-saṅgaiḥ punaḥ punaḥ
Where Narayana is addressed with praise, By sainted hermits in their lofty lays, There liberated his accounts proclaim, And revel in bliss over and again. 21 (4.30.36)
teṣāṁ vicaratāṁ padbhyāṁ tīrthānāṁ pāvanecchayā bhītasya kiṁ na roceta tāvakānāṁ samāgamaḥ
On foot they wander forth and ambulate, And holy shrines with their feet consecrate, Who is the fearful wight would be remiss, And would not, meeting them, find joy and bliss? 22 (4.30.37)

२ ॥ mahat-sevāṁ dvāram āhur vimuktes tamo-dvāraṁ yoṣitāṁ saṅgi-saṅgam mahāntas te sama-cittāḥ praśāntā vimanyavaḥ suhṛdaḥ sādhavo ye
(Rishabha to his sons) Service to great ones opens wide the gate To liberation and the supreme state; But through the gate of darkness are dispatched, Those fond of females and to them attached. The great are those who see with equal view, Serene and tranquil, who anger eschew, Who are disposed to amity with all, Are those that I as holy sadhus call. 23 (5.5.2)
३ ॥ ye vā mayīśe kṛta-sauhṛdārthā janeṣu dehambhara-vārtikeṣu gṛheṣu jāyātmaja-rātimatsu na prīti-yuktā yāvad-arthāś ca loke
Those who cultivate fond friendship for me, And would with me revel intimately, Have no interest with those whose only gain Are bodies needs and the home to maintain; A handsome wife, children and acquaintance, And very much attached to affluence. Yet rather they without trouble and strife, Take but the bare necessities of life. 24 🙂 (5.5.3)
No preceptor nor relative is he, He is no father, nor a mother she, He is no Deity, nor he a lord, Who do not to their dependents afford Good counsel and do not guidance bequeath, That they might be released from birth and death! 25 (5.5.18)

(Prahlada's solicitation) Lord, let me be unattached to home life, To wealth and friends, to offspring and the wife, But let my fond attachment be consigned To those who love the Lord, to him resigned; Who only take what sustenance requires, And self-controlled are free from vain desires. Since hard it is for those whom senses bind To pleasure, the perfected state to find. 26 (5.18.10)

aho nṛ-janmākhila-janma-śobhanaṁ kiṁ janmabhis tv aparair apy amuṣmin na yad dhṛṣīkeśa-yaśaḥ-kṛtātmanāṁ mahātmanāṁ vaḥ pracuraḥ samāgamaḥ
(Rahugana to Bharata) Certainly of all births a human birth, Has no superior in point of worth; No, not embodiment in higher spheres. But only where the glory strikes the ears Of Hrishikesha, by great ones extolled, Whose hearts are purified, and self controlled. No use to us would be such lofty heights If there were not such abundant delights. 27 (5.13.21)
na hy adbhutaṁ tvac-caraṇābja-reṇubhir hatāṁhaso bhaktir adhokṣaje ’malā mauhūrtikād yasya samāgamāc ca me dustarka-mūlo ’pahato ’vivekaḥ
Is it not strange and wondrous to conceive, That by your lotus-foot-dust to receive, A person gains destruction of his sins, And love for the Lord Adhoksaja wins! The briefest encounter and interview, Of those great sainted seers, such as you, Uproots fallacious arguments contrived, From lack of discrimination derived. 28 (5.13.22)
rahūgaṇaitat tapasā na yāti na cejyayā nirvapaṇād gṛhād vā na cchandasā naiva jalāgni-sūryair vinā mahat-pāda-rajo-’bhiṣekam
(Bharata to Rahugana) This cannot, O Rahugana, be gained, By penance and austerity maintained, Nor by worship, nor renunciation, Nor rites payed to the Water, Fire, nor Sun; Nor observation of vows reverent, To be strictly austere and continent, Without due humility, faith and trust, And bathing in the holy ones' foot-dust. 28a (5.12.12)

(Prahlada to Hiranyakashipu) Those feet his mind touch not in communion, Nor can impediments be overcome So long as one doth not the favour crave, Nor in the foot-dust of the great ones lave; Whose worldly attachments have all been razed, By whom the Wide-strider in verse is praised. 29 (7.5.32)

tasmād amūs tanu-bhṛtām aham āśiṣo ’jña āyuḥ śriyaṁ vibhavam aindriyam āviriñcyāt necchāmi te vilulitān uruvikrameṇa kālātmanopanaya māṁ nija-bhṛtya-pārśvam
(Prahlada to Narasimha) Therefore, the boons that beings seek to gain, I have perceived to be meagre and vain; Long life and beauty and vast opulence, High renown, great glory and influence; Since sense-objects are but transitory, For all beings including Virinchi; As thou dost puissant form of time assume, And into thy person all this subsume. Therefore the only boon I seek from thee; That my abode may with thy servants be. 30 (7.9.24)
evaṁ janaṁ nipatitaṁ prabhavāhi-kūpe kāmābhikāmam anu yaḥ prapatan prasaṅgāt kṛtvātmasāt surarṣiṇā bhagavan gṛhītaḥ so ’haṁ kathaṁ nu visṛje tava bhṛtya-sevām
(Prahlada to Narasimha) Thus fallen under the sense-objects' spell, The people wallow in a snake filled well; And I ensuing too the populace, Had sunk into that degenerate place, But, O my Lord Almighty, grace was shown By Narada, who took me as his own, And my deliverance did undertake. Your servants' service how could I forsake? 31 (7.9.28)
yat-saṅga-labdhaṁ nija-vīrya-vaibhavaṁ tīrthaṁ muhuḥ saṁspṛśatāṁ hi mānasam haraty ajo ’ntaḥ śrutibhir gato ’ṅgajaṁ ko vai na seveta mukunda-vikramam
(Prahlada's eulogy) By dwelling in whose bless'd society, Who sing his deeds divine repeatedly, The Birthless one enters the heart and mind, Which renders them purified and refined; Whereas by bathing at a holy shrine, One merely washes off bodily grime. Who is there then that would not strive to please, And serve Mighty Mukunda's devotees? 32 (5.18.11)

(Narayana to Durvasa) I am subjected to my devotees; Not independent to act as I please; The sadhus hold me in their hearts, O seer, And devotees of devotees are dear. 33 (9.4.63)

My ardent devotees, O brahman sage, Exclusively in me themselves engage; And I do not so much for myself care, Nor covet Goddess Sri, my consort fair. 34 (9.4.64)
ye dārāgāra-putrāpta- prāṇān vittam imaṁ param hitvā māṁ śaraṇaṁ yātāḥ kathaṁ tāṁs tyaktum utsahe
How can I abandon or e'er forsake, Those who have all discarded for my sake, Wives, homes, sons, wealth, life, landed property, Future prospects, and resigned unto me? 35 (9.4.65)
mayi nirbaddha-hṛdayāḥ sādhavaḥ sama-darśanāḥ vaśe kurvanti māṁ bhaktyā sat-striyaḥ sat-patiṁ yathā
Those who have bound me firm in heart and soul, With equal view, hold me in their control; E'en as a pious wife in every way, By faithful service o'er her lord holds sway. 36 (9.4.66)
mat-sevayā pratītaṁ te sālokyādi-catuṣṭayam necchanti sevayā pūrṇāḥ kuto ’nyat kāla-viplutam
By serving me they satisfaction gain, And care not for salvation's four-fold aim, Such as residence in my realm sublime, What then of things destroyed in course of time? 37 (9.4.67)
sādhavo hṛdayaṁ mahyaṁ sādhūnāṁ hṛdayaṁ tv aham mad-anyat te na jānanti nāhaṁ tebhyo manāg api
The sadhus abide in my heart forsooth, And I in hearts of sadhus dwell in truth, They know of nothing but for me, and then, I do not think of anyone but them. 38 (9.4.68)

(Krishna to Akrura) The bless'd like thee, O highly fortunate, Are worthy for the wise to venerate, Who seek the good, for even gods aspire To self interest, but saints have no desire. 39 (10.48.30)

(Sri Krishna to the assembled sages) How wondrous rare it is to be achieved! The good fruit of our birth we have received; For even gods with difficulty view, The great masters of yoga such as you. 42 (10.84.9)

(Krishna's speech to the sages) Worship to Fire, Sun and Moon consigned, Stars, Earth, Water, Sky with the speech and mind, Does not absolve the sins that thus accrue, By upholding a differential view; But service to the wise endued with grace, In a brief time all such sins doth efface. 44 (10.84.12)
yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke sva-dhīḥ kalatrādiṣu bhauma ijya-dhīḥ yat-tīrtha-buddhiḥ salile na karhicij janeṣv abhijñeṣu sa eva go-kharaḥ
Whoever as himself conceives to be The mortal frame composed of humours three; Who thinks his wife and family and earth, Are to be worshipped as his greatest worth; Who doth a body of water opine, To be a sacred sanctifying shrine; He is, that seeks not from the wise to know, An ass conveying fodder to a cow. 45 (10.84.13)

(Vasudeva, Krishna's father to Narada)
As beings from the gods gain happiness, They also from them derive much distress; But from saints, with Acyuta for their own, Is derived but pure happiness alone. 2.47 (11.2.5)

The gods bestow on those their due delights, According as they honour them with rites, And by reflection, as 'twere, bounties pour, But saints are disposed kindly to the poor. 2.48 (11.2.6)
durlabho mānuṣo deho dehināṁ kṣaṇa-bhaṅguraḥ tatrāpi durlabhaṁ manye vaikuṇṭha-priya-darśanam

(Sri Krishna to Uddhava) Nor self restraint nor deep analysis, Nor adherence to codes of righteousness; Nor study, abstinence, austerity, Nor public works nor immense charity, Nor vows, nor sacrifice, nor penance done, Nor pilgrimage, nor rules of prescription, And proscription, do not so much please me, As fond attachment to my devotee; Since satsanga affords supreme content, And removes all other base attachment. By association with devotees, Daityas, Yatudhanas, Apsarasees, Gandharvas, birds, beasts, snakes and Guhyakas, Siddhas, Charanas and Vidyadharas, And of men, merchants, labourers, women, And even ignorant and base born men; And many thus from age to age have gained, Perfection and my supreme realm attained. As even Tvastra's and Kayadhu's son, Vrishaparva, Bali the mighty one, Great Bana and the conjurer Maya, Worthy Vibhisana and Sugriva, Hanuman and the Bear preeminent, The noble Vuture and the Elephant; The merchant, the hunter, the humpback bride, The cowherd damsels in Vraja that bide, And the priests' wives attained me easily, And many others have thus come to me. None of these had studied the Vedic lore, Nor did they honour great ones and adore; They did not practice strict austerity, But came to me but by good company. 2.50-56 (11.12.1-7)
