Bhakti Ratnavali. 4.11
ज्ञानं यदाप्रतिनिवृत्तगुणोर्मिचक्र - मात्मप्रसाद उत यत्र गुणेष्वसङ्ग: । कैवल्यसम्मतपथस्त्वथ भक्तियोग: को निर्वृतो हरिकथासु रतिं न कुर्यात् ॥ १२ ॥ jñānaṁ yad āpratinivṛtta-guṇormi-cakram ātma-prasāda uta yatra guṇeṣv asaṅgaḥ kaivalya-sammata-pathas tv atha bhakti-yogaḥ ko nirvṛto hari-kathāsu ratiṁ na kuryāt
(Suka to Pariksit) A knowledge of whom lifts one from the sea, Of waves and whirlpools of the gunas three; By which knowledge attachments are eschewed, Which grants the soul supreme beatitude; And such the path of bhakti yoga is, Fraught with accounts of Hari, full of bliss; And who would not cultivate love for this? 4.11 (2.3.12)

आयुर्हरति वै पुंसामुद्यन्नस्तं च यन्नसौ । तस्यर्ते यत्क्षणो नीत उत्तमश्लोकवार्तया ॥ १७ ॥ āyur harati vai puṁsām udyann astaṁ ca yann asau tasyarte yat-kṣaṇo nīta uttama-śloka-vārtayā
(Shaunaka to Suta) The revolution of the night and day, Gradually takes the life span away; Except indeed, for those who spend their time, In Uttamasloka's topics divine. 4.12 (2.3.17)
तरव: किं न जीवन्ति भस्त्रा: किं न श्वसन्त्युत । न खादन्ति न मेहन्ति किं ग्रामे पशवोऽपरे ॥ १८ ॥ taravaḥ kiṁ na jīvanti bhastrāḥ kiṁ na śvasanty uta na khādanti na mehanti kiṁ grāme paśavo ’pare
Do trees not live with a life of their own? Do not the bellows breathe when they are blown? Do not wild animals and village beasts, Copulate and enjoy bounteous feasts? 4.13 (2.3.18)
श्वविड्वराहोष्ट्रखरै: संस्तुत: पुरुष: पशु: । न यत्कर्णपथोपेतो जातु नाम गदाग्रज: ॥ १९ ॥ śva-viḍ-varāhoṣṭra-kharaiḥ saṁstutaḥ puruṣaḥ paśuḥ na yat-karṇa-pathopeto jātu nāma gadāgrajaḥ
Then man as no more than a beast appears, If the Lord's name hath not entered his ears; And might be likened to a dog indeed. Or hog that doth upon excreta feed. 4.14 🙂 (2.3.19)

Bhakti Ratnavali. 4.15-16
ताञ्छोच्यशोच्यानविदोऽनुशोचे हरे: कथायां विमुखानघेन । क्षिणोति देवोऽनिमिषस्तु येषा- मायुर्वृथावादगतिस्मृतीनाम् ॥ १४ ॥ tāñ chocya-śocyān avido ’nuśoce hareḥ kathāyāṁ vimukhān aghena kṣiṇoti devo ’nimiṣas tu yeṣām āyur vṛthā-vāda-gati-smṛtīnām
(Vidura to Maitreya) I pity those for their iniquity, That are averse to topics of Hari; Who, through the unwinking spirit of time, Not gaining ought must undergo decline; Their doctrines and their rituals are vain, And from their cogitations reap no gain. 4.15 (3.5.14)
यन्न व्रजन्त्यघभिदो रचनानुवादा- च्छृण्वन्ति येऽन्यविषया: कुकथा मतिघ्नी: । यास्तु श्रुता हतभगैर्नृभिरात्तसारा- स्तांस्तान् क्षिपन्त्यशरणेषु तम:सु हन्त ॥ २३ ॥ yan na vrajanty agha-bhido racanānuvādāc chṛṇvanti ye ’nya-viṣayāḥ kukathā mati-ghnīḥ yās tu śrutā hata-bhagair nṛbhir ātta-sārās tāṁs tān kṣipanty aśaraṇeṣu tamaḥsu hanta
(Brahma to the gods) That divine realm is not attained by those, Who hearing of the qualities oppose, Of the sin-destroyer, and his great deeds, And how his creative power proceeds. But rather hear of worldly vanities, And ruin thus their mental faculties; Alas for those men sore deprived and lost, And without succour into darkness tossed. 4.16 (3.15.23)

(The gods to Narayana) O Deus! those who devoutly imbibe The nectar which accounts of thee describe, Conceive the quintessence of dispassion, And reach the lofty heights of pure wisdom; And easily achieve the blessing rare, In thy region beyond all pain and care. 4.17 (3.5.45)
ये तु त्वदीयचरणाम्बुजकोशगन्धं जिघ्रन्ति कर्णविवरै: श्रुतिवातनीतम् । भक्त्या गृहीतचरण: परया च तेषां नापैषि नाथ हृदयाम्बुरुहात्स्वपुंसाम् ॥ ५ ॥ ye tu tvadīya-caraṇāmbuja-kośa-gandhaṁ jighranti karṇa-vivaraiḥ śruti-vāta-nītam bhaktyā gṛhīta-caraṇaḥ parayā ca teṣāṁ nāpaiṣi nātha hṛdayāmburuhāt sva-puṁsām
(Brahma to Narayana) Whoso the fragrance of thy feet imbibe, Like lotuses, as holy texts describe, That wafted on the breeze of scripture hears, Of odours apprehended by the ears; Thou makest ingress to their lotus-heart, Where, bound by affection thou canst not part. 4.18 (3.9.5)

अयं त्वत्कथामृष्टपीयूषनद्यां मनोवारण: क्लेशदावाग्निदग्ध: । तृषार्तोऽवगाढो न सस्मार दावं न निष्क्रामति ब्रह्मसम्पन्नवन्न: ॥ ३५ ॥ ayaṁ tvat-kathā-mṛṣṭa-pīyūṣa-nadyāṁ mano-vāraṇaḥ kleśa-dāvāgni-dagdhaḥ tṛṣārto ’vagāḍho na sasmāra dāvaṁ na niṣkrāmati brahma-sampannavan naḥ
(The siddhas to Hari) This sweet stream of ambrosia proceeds, As the accounts of your glorious deeds; Our minds submerged therein such joy conceive, Like brahmic bliss which we would never leave; As tuskers caught in conflagration dire, Enter the river to avoid the fire. 4.19 (4.7.35)

(Prithu to Narayana) How could a learned one, O Mighty Lord, Giver of boons, ask thee for some reward, Intended for those under nature's spell, And even to be had in deepest hell? If salvation thou wouldst proffer to me, Nor that nor anything I ask of thee. 4.20 (4.20.23)
न कामये नाथ तदप्यहं क्वचिन् न यत्र युष्मच्चरणाम्बुजासव: । महत्तमान्तर्हृदयान्मुखच्युतो विधत्स्व कर्णायुतमेष मे वर: ॥ २४ ॥ na kāmaye nātha tad apy ahaṁ kvacin na yatra yuṣmac-caraṇāmbujāsavaḥ mahattamāntar-hṛdayān mukha-cyuto vidhatsva karṇāyutam eṣa me varaḥ
Dear Lord, for salvation I do not care, At anytime, an I cannot find there Thy foot-nectar, distilled within the heart, Of great ones, who then from their mouths impart; The blessing most worthy to me appears, Is that thou grant to me a million ears. 4.21 (4.20.24)

स उत्तमश्लोक महन्मुखच्युतो भवत्पदाम्भोजसुधा कणानिल: । स्मृतिं पुनर्विस्मृततत्त्ववर्त्मनां कुयोगिनां नो वितरत्यलं वरै: ॥ २५ ॥ sa uttamaśloka mahan-mukha-cyuto bhavat-padāmbhoja-sudhā kaṇānilaḥ smṛtiṁ punar vismṛta-tattva-vartmanāṁ kuyogināṁ no vitaraty alaṁ varaiḥ
(Prithu to Narayana) Lord of renown, in the fair speech that flows From great ones, a breeze charged with nectar blows, Conveying drops of ambrosia sweet, Distilled from pollen off thy lotus-feet; Which hearing even bad yogis attain That nectar, and strike the right path again; Which reawakens recollection, thus, Enough, Lord, grant no other boon to us! 4.22 (4.20.25)
यश: शिवं सुश्रव आर्यसङ्गमे यदृच्छया चोपशृणोति ते सकृत् । कथं गुणज्ञो विरमेद्विना पशुं श्रीर्यत्प्रवव्रे गुणसङ्ग्रहेच्छया ॥ २६ ॥ yaśaḥ śivaṁ suśrava ārya-saṅgame yadṛcchayā copaśṛṇoti te sakṛt kathaṁ guṇa-jño viramed vinā paśuṁ śrīr yat pravavre guṇa-saṅgrahecchayā
How can one who is bless'd and fortunate, Who does with holy ones associate, And haply having heard thy glorious fame, And having sense, from such delight refrain? He must a brute or quite dull witted be, Since even Fortuna approaches thee, Whom all approach desirous to please, Enamoured of thy divine qualities. 4.23 (4.20.26)

तस्मिन्महन्मुखरिता मधुभिच्चरित्र- पीयूषशेषसरित: परित: स्रवन्ति । ता ये पिबन्त्यवितृषो नृप गाढकर्णै- स्तान्न स्पृशन्त्यशनतृड्भयशोकमोहा: ॥ ४० ॥ tasmin mahan-mukharitā madhubhic-caritra- pīyūṣa-śeṣa-saritaḥ paritaḥ sravanti tā ye pibanty avitṛṣo nṛpa gāḍha-karṇais tān na spṛśanty aśana-tṛḍ-bhaya-śoka-mohāḥ
(Narada to Prachinabarhi) There, from the great ones mouths doth nectar flow; Perpetual accounts of Madhu's foe; The residue of which in bubbling rills, A flooding stream of ambrosia fills; And who always with deep attention hears, By drinking with the vessels of the ears, No more, O king, when in that stream immersed, Is grief, fear, wilderment, hunger nor thirst. 4.24 (4.29.40)

एतैरुपद्रुतो नित्यं जीवलोक: स्वभावजै: । न करोति हरेर्नूनं कथामृतनिधौ रतिम् ॥ ४१ ॥ etair upadruto nityaṁ jīva-lokaḥ svabhāvajaiḥ na karoti harer nūnaṁ kathāmṛta-nidhau ratim
But into such calamities are hurled, The souls compelled by nature in the world, Wherefore they have no fond affinity, In accounts ambrosial of Hari. 4.25 (4.29.41)
नैषातिदु:सहा क्षुन्मां त्यक्तोदमपि बाधते । पिबन्तं त्वन्मुखाम्भोजच्युतं हरिकथामृतम् ॥ १३ ॥ naiṣātiduḥsahā kṣun māṁ tyaktodam api bādhate pibantaṁ tvan-mukhāmbhoja- cyutaṁ hari-kathāmṛtam
(Pariksit to Suka) From food and e'en from water to abstain, Is not difficult for me to sustain, As I may the sweet nectar quaff that drips, Of Hari's exploits from your lotus-lips. 4.26 (10.1.13)

तं मोपयातं प्रतियन्तु विप्रा गङ्गा च देवी धृतचित्तमीशे । द्विजोपसृष्ट: कुहकस्तक्षको वा दशत्वलं गायत विष्णुगाथा: ॥ १५ ॥ taṁ mopayātaṁ pratiyantu viprā gaṅgā ca devī dhṛta-cittam īśe dvijopasṛṣṭaḥ kuhakas takṣako vā daśatv alaṁ gāyata viṣṇu-gāthāḥ
(Pariksit to the sages) Therefore, O Vipras, may you accept me, And may Ganga, the river deity, Receive me as one who with heart and mind, Is steadfast in the Lord; to him resigned; And let the magic snake-bird do its worst, Invoked by the twice-born who me had cursed. Now, therefore, without further questioning, The sweet accounts in song of Vishnu sing! 4.27 (1.19.15)

अन्येषां पुण्यश्लोकानामुद्दामयशसांसताम् । उपश्रुत्य भवेन्मोद: श्रीवत्साङ्कस्य किं पुन: ॥ ३४ ॥ anyeṣāṁ puṇya-ślokānām uddāma-yaśasāṁ satām upaśrutya bhaven modaḥ śrīvatsāṅkasya kiṁ punaḥ
(Suta to Shaunaka) When hearing holy accounts of the fame Of devotees, there is such joy to gain; What then of the praises in verse sublime, Of him who bears the bright Srivatsa sign? 4.28 (3.19.34)

tasmaddhimankathaam punyaam govinda caritaasritam/ mahatpunyapradaam yasmaac- chrinusva-nrpa-sattama//

नानुतृप्ये जुषन्युष्मद्वचोहरिकथामृतम् । संसारतापनिस्तप्तो मर्त्यस्तत्तापभेषजम् ॥ २ ॥ nānutṛpye juṣan yuṣmad- vaco hari-kathāmṛtam saṁsāra-tāpa-nistapto martyas tat-tāpa-bheṣajam
(Janaka to the Navayogis) The sweet accounts of Hari ye relate, Does not my ardent longing satiate; For mortals that worldly torments endure, It is the medicine and certain cure. 4.30 (11.3.2)
संसारसिन्धुमतिदुस्तरमुत्तितीर्षो- र्नान्य: प्लवो भगवत: पुरुषोत्तमस्य । लीलाकथारसनिषेवणमन्तरेण पुंसो भवेद् विविधदु:खदवार्दितस्य ॥ ४० ॥ saṁsāra-sindhum ati-dustaram uttitīrṣor nānyaḥ plavo bhagavataḥ puruṣottamasya līlā-kathā-rasa-niṣevaṇam antareṇa puṁso bhaved vividha-duḥkha-davārditasya
(Suka to Pariksit) Those who desire to cross this worldly sea, Impassable, and fraught with misery, May with great ease and security float, By embarking upon the sturdy boat, Which represents the hearing attentive, Of the sublime and joyous narrative, Of the Almighty Illustrious Lord, The Supreme Purushottama adored; And though by varied miseries aggrieved, They are of sorrow and torment relieved. 4.31 (12.4.40)

(Yudhisthira to Krishna) O master, how could misfortune befall Those who sweets of your lotus-feet recall. Who through the aural orifice imbibe Accounts ambrosial the great describe? Which reawakens the lost memory, Of the bodied beings' identity, Who recalls whence his bodied state derives, Breaks forgetfulness, memory revives. 4.32 (10.83.3)
विभ्व्यस्तवामृतकथोदवहास्त्रिलोक्या: पादावनेजसरित: शमलानि हन्तुम् । आनुश्रवं श्रुतिभिरङ्घ्रिजमङ्गसङ्गै- स्तीर्थद्वयं शुचिषदस्त उपस्पृशन्ति ॥ १९ ॥ vibhvyas tavāmṛta-kathoda-vahās tri-lokyāḥ pādāvane-ja-saritaḥ śamalāni hantum ānuśravaṁ śrutibhir aṅghri-jam aṅga-saṅgais tīrtha-dvayaṁ śuci-ṣadas ta upaspṛśanti
(The gods to Krishna) Accounts of your deeds are as nectar sweet, The holy rivers risen from your feet; Both cleanse away the dirt and purify The triple sphere, affording sanctity; The stream of accounts of your hallowed fame, Cleanses the mind of pollution and stain; And bathing in sacred streams every day, Bodily dirt and grime is washed away. 4.33 (11.6.19)

Bhakti Ratnavali. 4.34-36
तव विक्रीडितं कृष्ण नृणां परममङ्गलम् । कर्णपीयूषमासाद्य त्यजन्त्यन्यस्पृहां जना: ॥ ४४ ॥ tava vikrīḍitaṁ kṛṣṇa nṛṇāṁ parama-maṅgalam karṇa-pīyūṣam āsādya tyajanty anya-spṛhāṁ janāḥ
(Uddhava to Krishna) Your divine exploits, O Krishna, my Lord, The supreme blessing to mankind afford; Whose ear a taste for that nectar acquires, Abandons all extraneous desires. 4.34 (11.6.44)
वयं त्विह महायोगिन् भ्रमन्त: कर्मवर्त्मसु । त्वद्वार्तया तरिष्यामस्तावकैर्दुस्तरं तम: ॥ ४८ ॥ vayaṁ tv iha mahā-yogin bhramantaḥ karma-vartmasu tvad-vārtayā tariṣyāmas tāvakair dustaraṁ tamaḥ
But even we, O Great Yogin, who stray Here in this world and follow actions' way, Discoursing on your deeds with eloquence, O'ercome inexorable ignorance. 4.35 (11.6.48)
तावत् कर्माणि कुर्वीत न निर्विद्येत यावता । मत्कथाश्रवणादौ वा श्रद्धा यावन्न जायते ॥ ९ ॥ tāvat karmāṇi kurvīta na nirvidyeta yāvatā mat-kathā-śravaṇādau vā śraddhā yāvan na jāyate
(Krishna to Uddhava) So long as dispassion is not attained, A man to act as duty is constrained; Or haply if he gains affinity In hearing and reciting about me. 4.36 (11.20.9)
This one I had rendered ages ago, but could not find it, and so did it again. Well, as for that, just found the older one, so here it is for comparison.
A man is by his bounden duty still Compelled to acts of pious ritual; Until he has true dispassion attained, Or has relish in my discourses gained.
कर्मण्यस्मिन्ननाश्वासे धूमधूम्रात्मनां भवान् । आपाययति गोविन्दपादपद्मासवं मधु ॥ १२ ॥ karmaṇy asminn anāśvāse dhūma-dhūmrātmanāṁ bhavān āpāyayati govinda- pāda-padmāsavaṁ madhu
(Shaunaka to Suta) This rite we undertake, grace to invoke, Is uncertain but involves us in smoke; Your speech affords pleasure like lotus wine, Distilled from Govinda's soft feet divine. 4.37 (1.18.12)

श्रुतस्य पुंसां सुचिरश्रमस्य नन्वञ्जसा सूरिभिरीडितोऽर्थ: । तत्तद्गुणानुश्रवणं मुकुन्द- पादारविन्द हृदयेषु येषाम् ॥ ४ ॥ śrutasya puṁsāṁ sucira-śramasya nanv añjasā sūribhir īḍito ’rthaḥ tat-tad-guṇānuśravaṇaṁ mukunda- pādāravindaṁ hṛdayeṣu yeṣām
(Vidura to Maitreya) The end gained, by the wise is said to be, Of prolonged and laborious study, Is to enjoy hearing with praise replete, Of those who in their hearts cling to the feet Of Mukunda, like lotus-flowers sweet. 4.38 (3.13.4)
छिन्नान्यधीरधिगतात्मगतिर्निरीह- स्तत्तत्यजेऽच्छिनदिदं वयुनेन येन । तावन्न योगगतिभिर्यतिरप्रमत्तो यावद्गदाग्रजकथासु रतिं न कुर्यात् ॥ १२ ॥ chinnānya-dhīr adhigatātma-gatir nirīhas tat tatyaje ’cchinad idaṁ vayunena yena tāvan na yoga-gatibhir yatir apramatto yāvad gadāgraja-kathāsu ratiṁ na kuryāt
(Maitreya to Vidura) The mind from sense-objects might be restrained, One may have knowledge of the self attained; One may have cut away the strong desire That one by yoga practice may acquire; One may have cast such obstacles aside, And overcome of righteousness the pride, But till one has attained affinity, For the discourses treating Lord Hari, Known as Gaja's elder brother by name, One must still strictly disciplines maintain. 4.39 (4.23.12)

तव कथामृतं तप्तजीवनं कविभिरीडितं कल्मषापहम् । श्रवणमङ्गलं श्रीमदाततं भुवि गृणन्ति ये भूरिदा जना: ॥ ९ ॥ tava kathāmṛtaṁ tapta-jīvanaṁ kavibhir īḍitaṁ kalmaṣāpaham śravaṇa-maṅgalaṁ śrīmad ātataṁ bhuvi gṛṇanti ye bhūri-dā janāḥ
(The gopis sang) The glory of your deeds, like nectar sweet, Is balm to soothe the life of scorching heat; Which bards and poets honour and proclaim; Which wipes away of sin the taint and stain; But merely hearing of your wondrous deeds Is auspicious, whence good fortune proceeds. And those who such accounts disseminate, Are most magnanimous and truly great. 4.40 (10.31.9)
न हि भगवन्नघटितमिदं त्वद्दर्शनान्नृणामखिलपापक्षय: । यन्नाम सकृच्छ्रवणात् पुक्कशोऽपि विमुच्यते संसारात् ॥ ४४ ॥ na hi bhagavann aghaṭitam idaṁ tvad-darśanān nṛṇām akhila-pāpa-kṣayaḥ yan-nāma sakṛc chravaṇāt pukkaśo ’pi vimucyate saṁsārāt
(Chitraketu to Sankarshana) O Lord illustrious! it would not be Over exaggeration to decree, That when mankind a vision of you wins, They attain to the remission of sins; Since the base outcast straightway doth attain Salvation but once hearing of your name! 4.41 (6.16.44)
