Satyeswaranandas claims about Yogananda modifying original Kriya resembles IGM and their controversies with Orthodox GV/CV.
He does makes some valid points though i.e., Guru-Parampara and Yogananda leaving out Khechari Mudra in the Kriya technique that he taught.
I may add that Satyeswarananda toots his own whistle a tad much it seems by claiming himself directly instructed by Mahamuni Babaji and all that.

Jaya asta-siddhi samparna yogiraj Kanchopi Topa Baba! All this talk about Yogananda reawakened my interest in these topics. Before coming to CV I spent a lot of time in yoga practice and was seriously considering getting diksha in kriya yoga. Anyway, I was in Loi Bazaar this morning and popped in Alok's bookshop and a book I long thought about purchasing was just sitting there staring at me from the shelf. It is titled, Sri Babaji, Immortal Yogi of the Himalayas by Romola Butalia...I just had to bring it home with me. I read the intro and most of the first chapter so far and I find the book very interesting and well written. It has a great flow to it and I like that the author uses lots of sanskrit words and seldom translates them. There is a glossary in back if needed. Read a little more about it at India Travelogue. I am going to the Himalaya, probably Rishikesh around October, but just by reading a small portion of this book I am thinking about making another trip much sooner to Kumaon in an attempt to visit some of the places mentioned in this book.

Here's a link to 'Jujersa Yogashram' (Kriya Yoga) in West Bengal They follow traditional method of Guru-Parampara: www.kriyayogashram.org/Thanks for the link saag ji! That is definitely one of the best sites on kriya yoga that I have seen. In the discussions section they even tell an inspirational story that they heard from Bijoy Krishna Goswami: This story was told by revered Acharya Bijoy Krishna Goswami-ji---Once, in a European Country, there was a drought for a very long time. Everywhere people started to pray to God for rain. An advertisement was published in a local newspaper of a city – inviting its citizens to attain a prayer for rain. On the scheduled day, all residents of the city started gathering in the Church. A small boy arrived there with an umbrella in his hand. Watching the umbrella, the persons who had gathered there asked the boy – “ hey, why did you bring the umbrella now?” The boy confidently replied, - “Today we will pray for rain & God will definitely listen to us. Then, what would happen to us if we don’t have an umbrella? All of us will be wet if we have to return home in the rain." Listening to the boy, everyone get astonished and started laughing. After the completion of the prayer, really the rain started. The boy said, “if you really had belief in God, then you would not have left your umbrellas back in your home. Now see, you all stay here, I am going to my home.” After stating this story Swamiji said “ pray to God like a baby crying for mother. God is compassionate. He has shown his compassion even to a sinful person like me, then He will not dishearten anyone. If you pray to Him from your heart, He will certainly come to you. I am telling this not by listening it, even not from my imagination. I am saying this from my own experience. God will definitely come to you if you pray respectfully and with honesty. Please pray once in the way I am saying, definitely He will shower His blessing on you.”

Acharya Bijoy Krishna Goswami-ji is said to have taken diksha (along with his wife) from Mahamuni Babaji in the Himalayas, this story is given in Saints of Bengal by OBL Kapoor. regards, saag

Saag Ji where is the story in the Saints of Bengal? I couldn't find it. Maybe that story came from some other account of his life.

No it's in there, Mahamuni Babaji is referred to as Brahmananda, see page 56 and 70, 74, 75...
Also Vijay Krishna Gosvami had close relationship with Sri Paramhansa Ramakrishna

How can we be certain that Brahmananda Swami and Hairakhandi Baba are one and the same? You are probably correct Saag Ji, but it would be cool to have a bit more evidence.
I know a wonderful story about Ramakrishna Paramahansa and Bijoy Krishna Goswami. Maybe I will type it up later, or Subrata if you are following this thread please narrate the story you told me about what occurred at Eriyadaha Pathbari.

Just wanted to be really sure. I have been to Katyayani Mandir many times. Also, during Kartik when the kirtaniyas and others from Path Bari come to Braja we make a stop at this mandir while on nagar-sankirtan. When there we sit down and sing a special kirtan for Devi/Yogamaya. There is a samadhi mandir of Sri Keshavananda Ji there too. In The Life of Love there is a story of the meeting of Radharaman Charan Dev and Keshavananda Swami. Our lineage has a very close and special relationship with Prabhupad Sri Bijoy Krishna Goswami, so for him to have received diksha from Hairakhandi Baba is a very welcome and wonderful thing to me.

I do want to add that I DO think Paramhamsa Yogananda was very sincere and certainly not materialistic in his asking 'Divine Mother' for her blessings on various occasions, anyone who thinks this is not very familiar with his life at all.
I also may add that I understand why he was not so keen on introducing 'Kechari Mudra' and higher Kriyas when he came to the west...
namaskar,

Though I never met him or any of his followers (at that time) he was very influential in my life and led me to bhakti-marg. saag svamigal I just love jatiya sadhus! Personally, I am not so keen on shaven heads and faces. I love the beautiful appearance of sadhus with jata and flowing beards! I would like to add that I have been to the Yogoda Satsanga Math in Dakshinesvar many times and it is a very serene place with a wonderful vibe to it. A little haven on the bank of the Ganga in an otherwise noisy, and unclean Kolkata.

I understand and want to say the reason I added Satyeswaranandas links was because he does have some interesting stuff there about Kriya and it's history, his critical attitude towards Yoganandaji is the same stuff we have witnessed with Orthodox GV/CV and IGM. Maybe Satyeswarananda is the 'Nitai' of the Kriya camp... ;D
