Happy New Year everyone. I was just trying to think of a way to inspire myself to chant the Mahamantra and so thought some erudite practioners here might have a top ten list or something for the "top ten best reasons to chant Hare Krishna and Be Happy!"
Can anyone answer this call?

Okay well here is my go at it...without much interesting shastric renderings, so please someone else do a better job.
The top ten reasons to chant Hare Krishna in the year 2012...
1. Its better than twiddling thumbs. 2. It has a nice ring to it. 3. Girls like the sound of it if you do it the right way. 4. Annoying people don't come near you if you are doing it enough. 5. If annoying people do come near you, it is way easier to deal with them while you are chanting. 6. It doesn't cost anything, the mantra is free. 7. You can do it anywhere including when you are in disposal. 8. Its better than counting sheep at night and more beneficial. 9. Its more interesting than the Jesus and Mary prayer. 10. If the Yamadutas come for you at the time of death and you are chanting it, then they may not need to take you down to the depths of Hell!

Hmm, i like this topic and your list esp # 1,6,9 I have a few ideas.
1)Krsna name is cool! 2)Krsna is wearing a peacock feather! 3)Krsna doesn't wear a shirt and plays in the forest of vraj! 4)Why not chant his name?its Krsna 5)Chanting Krishna name makes you feel happy 6)I'ver heard it is a open secret, a rare treasure that is freely given 7)It will make you laugh 8)It will make you cry 9)Sri Radhika loves Sri Krsna! 10)To get Krsna prema
It's not that well put together but hey

I tried to do it Dave Letterman style where the points build momentum and sometimes go to a jovial side and then number ten is the topper when he throws his pencil into the glass window in the back.

Haribol Spiritual Bhakti
It's weird that you would need 10 reasons to chant the mahamantra. For me there is ONLY one reason. Chanting the mantra connects me to Krishna. It gives a structure to my spiritual life.

Haribol Spiritual Bhakti It's weird that you would need 10 reasons to chant the mahamantra. For me there is ONLY one reason. Chanting the mantra connects me to Krishna. It gives a structure to my spiritual life. hmmm...I wonder if you meant you (singular) directed at spiritualbhakti or you (plural) meaning "why would anyone need more than one reason?" if you meant the first way, then don't forget I was the one making such a list just for fun and brainstorming...and if you mean the second one, then I think having more than one reason might be good in order to strengthen and embellish the more important and singular reason that you mention. There are in fact many people who chant the mahamantra and do so to be close to Krishna. If they are from a non-gaudiya sampradaya, then their conception of Krishna might lack good guidance as given in gaudiya tradition. So in this case, having supporting reasons might help a lot in order to reach the goal you mention.
