I think some of the concerns of the book may be valid, vis-avis the kid glove treatment of Islam (not sure Christianity falls into the same category - since I have seen historical criticisms of Christianity a lot) Obviously, it does not apply to Harris who is careful to distinguish between Islam and other religions.

This is a bit of a caricature, don't you think? As someone who actually teaches world religions, I don't know anyone among my colleagues who only teaches the negative side of Hinduism or only the positive side of Islam. The point is to study and present the various religions objectively and not as an apologist for the religion. Nor should one teach a religion in a certain way in order to get donations from the members of that community. The sad thing is that some members of some communities don't want their religions handled objectively. Even that is too much for them.
