I was going over a dispute about the identity of CM. One side claims CM is Krsna and Radha combined while other says that CM is Krsna in the mood of Radha, so the first group is wrong. Another thing is that some traditional CV insist we take the identities of people in gaura lila from kavi karnapura to make progress in CV. Do you really think it is true? I don't think most of the people before kavi karnapura even knew about the identities of the participants while performing their sadhana. Did it hamper their progress to not know the correct identity of Raghunath das Goswami for instance. What do you think of fights on the identities of people in Gaura Lila? I find them Christian like beliefs that people may have without much experience. Is it a sign of progress to believe in these identities without questioning? Every sect (madhva, vallabha, ramanuja) have these identities. Which ones are true or all are true? I don't know.

I am not one that knows enough about all this, but just to try and resurrect your question, I will put my two cents in.
I have heard more reliably, that Radha-Krishna combined concept is totally bogus and just a sloppy rendering of the reality. The reality being is that CM is Krishna, who adopted the mood and feelings of Radha to understand her love for him.
The two ideas seem to get mashed togther so it seems alright to most people, but the combined thing isn't very logical. Krishna only appears as himself.

I think that with all religious ideas and concepts, there is a development. It appears that for the understanding and practice of raganuga bhakti there is the idea and practice of a siddha deha, a spiritual identity the sadhaka meditates on while rendering service to Radha and Krishna in Vrindavan. These eternal associates of the Lord manifested along with Mahaprabhu as sadhakas to teach the practice of ragaunga bhakti. Those who are in the mood of gopis and manjaris are the ones we identify with as though within a paralell 'universe' of Navadwipa and of Vrindavan. My lineage teaches to render service to Mahaprabhu in Navadwipa as a sadhaka and then to render service to Radha and Krisna in Vrindavan, after having received the mercy of the former. It is a way of entering the confidential pastimes of Radha and Krishna, through the mercy of Mahaprabhu and his associates.
