The omnipotent Lord said:

'How is it that you have become polluted with such lamentation in this dangerous hour? To depart from the path of the Aryans, the truly enlightened way, will cause you to be infamous in this world and to lose the celestial pleasures of the hereafter. (2)

Arise, O conqueror of foes! Throw off this weakness of heart which is befitting only lesser men. Do not give in to becoming a eunuch, my dear son of Kunti!' (3)

"Arjuna responded:

'It is my duty to worship the feet of such great personalities as Bhishma and Drona. How can I now be expected to return fire on them, engaged on the field of battle? (4)

I would prefer to live in the world as a beggar rather than enjoy a grand life sprinkled with the blood of my gurus. Although they lust to gain the things of this world, their position nonetheless commands my reverence. (5)

[sita]

I can not say whether it is better for us to win this war or to lose it, and neither would I care to go no living if all these cousin-brothers of ours must die. (60)

[sita]

I know that this confusion which I feel within my mind in regard to my service has come about on account of certain deep weaknesses of spirit, but I have the greatest confidence in Your advice. Now I approach You for Your shelter praying that You will accept me as Your disciple and enlighten me with suitable instructions. (7)

I am my self unable to overcome this great feeling of sorrow and lamentation which has deadened my finer sensibilities and I feel I should be unable to do so even if I were to be named the Sovereign Emperor of the earth with unrivalled authority like the celestial overlords enjoy in their domains''' (8)

Sanjay narrated:

"After speaking in this way, Arjuna, although famous for his enlightenment as well as for his victory in battle, then said: 'O Govinda, I cannot fight!' and became quiet. (9)

Then with a very pleasing smile upon His face, the Lord of all sentient beings, Shri Krishna, in the midst of the opposing armies gathered there, began to speak to His sorrowful friend as follows:

'Although you speak as if you were a person of great learning, you show sorrow over that which requires no such grief. Those whose vision is clear see no cause for lamentation either for those who still share the world with them or for those who have departed from their sight. (11)

There was never a time when I or you were not, or when any of these monarchs assembled here were not. Neither shall a time ever arise when we shall not be. (12)

I love this verse. It is such a reassurance.

Just as we observe in this life the change of a youthful body to an old one, so yet another body is adopted at the time when this one must pass. Those who have understood the true nature of life are never bewildered by this. (13)

Joy and sorrow arise and depart just like summer and winter. None of these perceptions have any permanence and one must therefore be persevering in the face of all change. (14)
