পূর্ব্বকথিত শ্রীরাধাদাস্য-তন্ময়-প্রাপ্ত মহদ্গণ ভুজমূলে শংখচক্রাদি চিহ্ন ধারণ যদি না করেন, ললাটে বিচিত্র শ্রীহরিমন্দির-রচনা যদি না করেন, সুশোভনা তুলসীমালিকা কণ্ঠে যদি ধারণ না করেন তথাপি শ্রীরাধাচরণে-গরিষ্ঠ-ভজন-প্রভাবে তাঁহারা মহদ্বুদ্ধি-সম্পন্ন ইহা জানিতে হইবে। (শ্রীগৌরসুন্দর দাস)

Advaita Das-ji's translation is:
Who in this world are those unintelligent persons who do not mark their shoulders with the signs of the disc and the conchshell of Lord Viṣṇu, who do not make a wonderful temple of Lord Hari (tilaka) on (12 parts of) the body, or who do not wear beautiful Tulasī beads around their necks through the power attained by serving their guru? (RRSN 82)

The above is a trans from the edition of Sri ADB, no?
We clearly see the verse has been interpreted in two opposite ways. Which one is the author's intention? I think the trans by GS Das and BS is according to the author's intention.

But ADB does give two different interpretations for sadhaka and siddha devotees. The intitial one for the former class, the latter one for the later class.

I wonder if, as it seems, the variant readings are based on 'mahaabudhaya' whether it is taken as greatly wise or greatly stupid. But as greatness is more appropriately applied to wise, although I suppose one can be greatly stupid, there is nothing really great about being stupid. But, I am a great fool. hahahahaha Bhanu Swami seems to me the best interpretation, as it strange to suggest that relying on the guru's auspices, the practitioner should neglect certain articles, but rather due to absorption they may forget to wear the external display of piety. Still, like Kd91, it would be good to know what the author's actual intention was, or if he intended it to be somewhat ambiguous, which they sometimes do, to leave posterity to argue over it. It reminds me somewhat of the reading in Upadesamrta, where niyamaagraha is taken either as over zealous adherence to rules or conversely neglect of the rules. In that case it would seem superfluous to suggest both as that would make the six detriments come to seven. hehehehe I mean, it would have to be one or the other that the author intended and not both.

Regarding your point about Upadesamrta, niyamagraha seems to indicate "balance" in my mind with it's dual definition. Not too much this way and not too much that way. What do you think?
