udyac-chubhraamsu-kotidyutinikaratiraskaarakaaryaujjvalasri
durvaaroddaamadhaamaprakararipugatonmaadavidhvamsi gandhah
snehaadapyunnimesamnijamanujamito'ranyabhumau
svavitamtadviryajno'pi yon aksanam apanayate staumi tam dhenukaarim//
Whose handsome form eclipses the fair light
Of millions of moons rising, glowing bright;
The redolence of his puissance conveys
A dread terror that hosts of demons slays.
Though his younger's power he comprehends,
While roaming through the forest with his friends,
He ne'er abandons his sweet company,
No, not e'en for the blinking of an eye;
I sing his praise who all praise does surpass,
The slayer of vile Dhenka, the ass.

Chastisement of Yamuna
Now he, mighty Bala, inebriate,
Yamuna summoned to facilitate
His water sport, and flow nearby that spot,
But seeing him in his cups, she did not
Comply with him, or to his summons bow.
Whereat the mighty one took up his plough,
And out of measure wrath, he dragged by force,
The flood and thus redirected her course.
'Thou wanton one!' said he, 'and dost thou dare
'Defy my summons? Now with my plough share,
'I shall thy chanel in hundreds divide,
'Thou sinful one! and humble thy great pride.'
Thus chastened by the Yadu's darling Lord,
Yamuna, in dread fear, his grace impored,
And bowing at his feet, disquieted,
The terrified Yamuna to him said,
'O Rama, Rama! of the mighty prowess,
'I knew not thy dignity, I confess,
'That by a fraction of thyself doth hold
'As it's great Lord, the universal world.
'Thy almightyhood was to me unknown,
'O thou most puissant and almighty one,
'But now I have surrendered unto thee,
' Who love the devout and the refugee.'
( Bhag. 10.65.23-28)
When Balarama, accompanied by the princes and dignitaries of Dvaraka came to negotiate terms for the release of Samba, the haughty Kauravas loaded the Lord with vituperate invective.
The Kauravas said;
Alas, alas! what great wonder is this!
That things should have developed thus amiss;
Since by the course of inexorable time,
The shoe upon the royal head would climb.
These Vrishnis are bounden to us by ties
Of marriage, whom we considered allies;
We suffered them to share our seats and meals,
Allowing them the status of equals.
The privilege and status that they have,
Their very royal thrones, 'twas us that gave!
Only because we wink and look away,
They ween they command imperial sway;
'Tis only by our sufference they can
Enjoy the use of the white yak tail fan,
The couch, the parasol; that we alone
Allow them their soft seats and royal throne.
These haughty Yadus must no more presume
Imperial dignity to assume,
Which only trouble for the givers makes,
Like feeding of milk to ungrateful snakes.;
And having prospered by our favour thus,
They durst, without shame, give commands to us!
How could the mighty Indra even dare
To appropriate to himself the share
That Bhisma, Drona, and Arjuna guard?
To take the lion's kill for lambs were hard.
Sri Badarayani said;
Thus, best of Bharats, in their haughty pride,
Of high birth, wealth and beauty, they deride
Lord Rama, with unutterable word,
Such as are never worthy to be heard,
And having to their anger given vent,
Th'assembly back unto their city went.
Marking the Kuru's foul conduct, abhorred,
Hearing their speech, the infalible Lord,
Broke forth in mighty rage and waxing wrath,
Stern countenance and terrifying laugh.
'Certes these recreants in haughty ire,
'For conciliation have no desire,
'Therefore since they are brutes in attitude,
'With the rod, like brutes, they must be subdued.'
(Bhag. 68.24-28)
