Thanks zvs. And you think right. On GR the atmosphere is at times distincly anti-spiritual, and although I am ex-IGM (but at the moment reading Shukavak's biography of Bhaktivinode Thakur) I am not ex-vaishnava. See, I didn't even know that. I don't pick up anti-spiritualism, but there are certainly a number of non-spiritualists there. (I am one of them, so I'm sorry for being part of your problem!) I can understand that a current Vaishnava may feel a bit alienated there, and one of the members is expressing that rather clearly lately. For myself, I remain eminently interested in discussing Vaishnava topics... it's a part of my life I can never forget, even if it is resolved now, and my involvement in it has left me fascinated by all the different aspects up for discussion.

(but at the moment reading Shukavak's biography of Bhaktivinode Thakur) A most excellent work. A must-read. I transcribed an entire chapter from that book (the chapter describing siddha-pranali) and put it on the Net, complete with Bengali footnotes. Sadly no longer available as Geocities went down and took my site with it. However I recently rediscovered that document while rummaging through some old files. If I find it again, I'll consider putting it online. A highly valuable source of information.

It was on a DVD right next to my laptop. Anyway, formatted and converted to PDF, it's now available at Srivas Angan. (Tons of files I've collected over the years on that DVD, I'll put many more online when I get some time.)

Nitai ji, I appreciate you being educated about the theory of evolution and modern methods of dating. The people you appreciate like Satyanarayan ji do believe in the yuga cycles and hardly trust evolution and dating methods? How do you continue to admire the traditional gurus who condemn the modern world and give same arguments for existence of soul as 500 years back.

My nickname is AJ and I live in Lewis Center, Ohio (north Columbus). I like teaching (I have good proficiency in almost all subjects), business, sports, martial arts, psychology, engineering, modern science, 10 min cooking, ethics, political theory, military theory and weapons, economics, math, deep sleep, and much much more. I like Vedas, alternative religion, and Greek science. I like sociology and anthropology.
I don't like Columbus and I am trying to move out soon as I complete my work and I want to teach at a university level on many subjects. Columbus has bad traffic, poor weather (too hot and too cold), air pollution, and too many restaurants every where. The scenic part of Columbus is very good. But once you enter the city/suburban area, not good!
I have an engineering degree from Purdue! In retrospect, I wish I attained a different degree though. Business or educational I would of liked more. I do not recommend getting a Masters or PhD in any field. A custom degree for a well-rounded general education is perfect. MIT and other colleges offer that.
Languages Good at English Below average at Espanol Excellent understanding of Indic languages Find Kanji interesting
I like doing community work and advising people.
I have a Facebook home page too.
Look forward to valuable communication here . . .

Welcome, AJ. You sound like a talented guy. Weren't you a member here before briefly? When you lived in Chicago? I vaguely recall you. What sort of work are you currently doing? Our member Vivek also has an engineering degree, but from Georgia Tech. How is your Sanskrit?

Our member Vivek also has an engineering degree, but from Georgia Tech. How is your Sanskrit? Thank you for the introduction ! I've been a member of many online forums in the past and then took a huge break. I've lived near Chicago few years ago. Currently, I'm a substitute in Columbus. Sanskrit -- you seem to be one of the leaders in this area. You seem interested in Southeast Asian studies too I've read. Personally, I found Sanskrit overrated and I just learned an extreme amount of it's vocab. I may add, communication is not bounded to a human literary script and different languages have +/-. Contributors here are expert on that. Any how, understanding communication (feelings, emotions, and forms/quality) along with psychology is more important. And you can't learn that at an accredited university ever.

Hi Kalki. Welcome to the site. Sorry about the confusion surrounding your registration. I toyed with the idea of closing the site to any more members, but will keep it open to everyone for the time being.
Tell those of us who never go to GR a little more about yourself, if you don't mind. We would like to hear your story, if you don't mind sharing it with us. Thanks

Hi Kalki. Welcome to the site. Sorry about the confusion surrounding your registration. I toyed with the idea of closing the site to any more members, but will keep it open to everyone for the time being. Oh, well no prob about the registration. I am glad I made the cut off in that case. Actually I had registered with perhaps a different username maybe a year ago, but never used the account for some reason. I can't remember why. But I decided to check out some other forums other than GR. About myself, well, I am kinda not so much into revealing about my vaishnava connections. I know that isn't always allowed on some forums, but I hope it is okay here. I have not yet dealt with all aspects of my relations with previous ashram/sanga members or even how the philosophy sits with me. However I have not any problem sharing with everyone who I am today and what I believe in. I hope it will become more clear by way of the nature of my posts. I can't say I have an unwavering faith in Krishna any longer. But I can say that I have retained my affinity and connection for the process laid out by the 6 Goswamis and what is written in the Gita. My alliance in spiritual practice lies with Buddhism at the moment. I can admit though that I do come from Iskcon and have some connections in the GM circles. I have come to the conclusion that Gaudiya Siddhanta in my opinion has not properly understood the conclusion of Buddhism and has rashly labeled it as sunyavada and implying it to be spiritual death. A proper understanding of the philosophy propounded by Buddha, sunyata is quite something different I think. So that is my stance and who I am and I hope to learn something while I am on board with you all. Thanks for the opportunity to express myself.

Could you explain Buddhism and the real sunyata idea in detail. I like to hear perspectives on it from different people.

Oh, ya, well that'll be a good one. I will post a thread perhaps. Let me gather some proper resources with quotes and reference. Briefly, sunyata is emptiness or a realization of phenomena having no inherent existence. That is to say it is different than inherently not existing. This is where the mistake lies. But let me build on this in a thread. Later.
