When Goddess Earth approaches the gods to make her appeal, it may be noted that the Bhagavat does not relate her speech. Still, in the Vishnu Purana there is long prayer of Prithvi or Earth, the first half of which is a didactic passage, followed by the actual appeal. Here is a rudimentary rendering of the appeal from VP. V.I. 21-27
(The Earth Goddess said;) Many a Daitya demon enemy Lead by the powerful Kalanemi, The world of mortals have themselves possessed, And the mortals are by them sore oppressed.
The great demon Kalanemi, of yore, Was by the mighty Vishnu slain before, But is reborn as Ugrasena's son, And with him many a wicked demon.
Arishta, Dhenuka, Keshi, the horse, Pralamba, Naraka, of potent force, Sunda and Bana, fearsome in the fight, The son of Bali puissant in his might.
And hosts of demons in martial array, As royal princes hold arbitrary sway.
I cannot thus sustain the cumbent load, Of demons who on earth have made abode.
Therefore, ye gods, distressed, I come to you, For timely relief and succour I sue;
Unable to bear burden such as this, I sink into Patala's deep abyss.
