Prahlad to Narasimha
नैतन्मनस्तव कथासु विकुण्ठनाथ सम्प्रीयते दुरितदुष्टमसाधु तीव्रम् । कामातुरं हर्षशोकभयैषणार्तं तस्मिन्कथं तव गतिं विमृशामि दीन: ॥ ३९ ॥
naitan manas tava kathāsu vikuṇṭha-nātha samprīyate durita-duṣṭam asādhu tīvram kāmāturaṁ harṣa-śoka-bhayaiṣaṇārtaṁ tasmin kathaṁ tava gatiṁ vimṛśāmi dīnaḥ
The tidings of your deeds, O Lord divine, Have no attraction for this mind of mine; Restless, polluted with iniquity, Impetuous, prone to dishonesty; By strong passions and fond desires urged, Now full of joy, now in distress submerged; Now hopeful, and now sore disquieted, With consuming anxiety and dread. How then shall I, who in this wretched state, Your ways divine and exploits contemplate?

Just filling in the gaps and polishing the numbers of some earlier Cantos. Currently proceeding through Canto 41, but here some lines from Canto 20, Book 10.
Somewhere the mountain torrents flow on by, Elsewhere the the springs and brooks and streams are dry; As holy men, who when they have the mood, Grant teachings, while at other times they brood.
The flashing fishes flitting in the pools, Where unaware, like worldly minded fools, Who wot not their inevitable fate, E'en as Autumnal pools evaporate.
The stars now glisten in the cloudless sky, And their pleasing and lambent light supply; Just as the mind freed from impurities, Can comprehend holy scripture's decrees.
Amid the spangled stars, shining more bright, The moon Autumnal sheds his silver light, Even as the great Yadu Lord divine, Among the Yadus prominent doth shine.
Now the gentle breeze thro' the forest strayed, The scent of Vrindavan's flowers conveyed, Which to all people brought from heat relief, Except the cowherd damosels, whose grief Was augmented, which restlessness imparts, Since Krishna had away stolen their hearts.
When a good king the royal throne ascends, Affords joy to his subjects and his friends, Only the thieves and brigands must abide, Dispirited, and from the public hide.
E'en as the Sun, rising at early day, All flowers welcome with their bright array, Only the Kumudini droops her head, And hides her face by shame disquieted.

As Four-faced Brahma concludes his suppliant panegyric, he expresses his wonder at the fortunate condition of the cowherds. 10.14.35
एषां घोषनिवासिनामुत भवान् किं देव रातेति न- श्चेतो विश्वफलात् फलं त्वदपरं कुत्राप्ययन् मुह्यति । सद्वेषादिव पूतनापि सकुला त्वामेव देवापिता यद्धामार्थसुहृत्प्रियात्मतनयप्राणाशयास्त्वत्कृते ॥ ३५ ॥
eṣāṁ ghoṣa-nivāsinām uta bhavān kiṁ deva rāteti naś ceto viśva-phalāt phalaṁ tvad-aparaṁ kutrāpy ayan muhyati sad-veṣād iva pūtanāpi sa-kulā tvām eva devāpitā yad-dhāmārtha-suhṛt-priyātma-tanaya-prāṇāśayās tvat-kṛte
Oh mighty Lord! my mind cannot conceive, What further grace these cowherds might receive; Tho' thou the source of benediction hight, Thou art unable their love to requite; Tho' Putana, disguised, thy death did plan, Salvation she attained with all her clan; These cowherds have to thee their love expressed, And dedicated all by them possessed; Their homes, their wealth, and their relatives dear, Their offspring, mind and soul, and vital air.

Uddhava's soliloquy on the high achievement of the cowherd damsels. ŚB 10.47.58
एता: परं तनुभृतो भुवि गोपवध्वो गोविन्द एव निखिलात्मनि रूढभावा: । वाञ्छन्ति यद् भवभियो मुनयो वयं च किं ब्रह्मजन्मभिरनन्तकथारसस्य ॥ ५८ ॥
etāḥ paraṁ tanu-bhṛto bhuvi gopa-vadhvo govinda eva nikhilātmani rūḍha-bhāvāḥ vāñchanti yad bhava-bhiyo munayo vayaṁ ca kiṁ brahma-janmabhir ananta-kathā-rasasya
Among all living beings incarnate, These cowherd brides have gained the perfect state; The highest ecstasy that can be gained In Govinda, the All-soul, have attained. Which is the supreme object of desire, To which the fearful in this world aspire, And which sages, and ourselves would acquire. Sans talks on Ananta, what is the worth, Of noble pedigree and brahman birth!
By the way, the Devanagari and transliteration were pasted from BV Veda base. Quite handy.
From what I can see in the various interpretations 'brahma-janma' can mean both brahman birth and/or birth as Lord Brahma. The latter option seems to me out of context since Uddhava is is talking about social status in the other verses. And is it likely that the author would intend two quite different things in one phrase?

The first stanza of Bhishma's panegyric, Srimad Bhagavatam . 1.9.32
श्रीभीष्म उवाच इति मतिरुपकल्पिता वितृष्णा भगवति सात्वतपुङ्गवे विभूम्नि । स्वसुखमुपगते क्वचिद्विहर्तुं प्रकृतिमुपेयुषि यद्भवप्रवाह: ॥ ३२ ॥
śrī-bhīṣma uvāca iti matir upakalpitā vitṛṣṇā bhagavati sātvata-puṅgave vibhūmni sva-sukham upagate kvacid vihartuṁ prakṛtim upeyuṣi yad-bhava-pravāhaḥ
Bhishma said; May my mental faculty be consigned, Having the thirst for sense objects resigned, To that almighty and most puissant Lord, Who enjoys in himself, and is adored As chief of the Saatvata dynasty. Who sometime, in playful felicity, Incarnates to perform his wondrous deeds, Albe from him world's creation proceeds.

ŚB 1.9.35 सपदि सखिवचो निशम्य मध्ये निजपरयोर्बलयो रथं निवेश्य । स्थितवति परसैनिकायुरक्ष्णा हृतवति पार्थसखे रतिर्ममास्तु ॥ ३५ ॥
sapadi sakhi-vaco niśamya madhye nija-parayor balayo rathaṁ niveśya sthitavati para-sainikāyur akṣṇā hṛtavati pārtha-sakhe ratir mamāstu
Directed by his friend he drove the car Toward the hostile forces in the war, And when that mighty Lord had there arrived, His antagonists were of life deprived, By his mere glancing on the hostile train. May I in love with Partha's friend remain!
ŚB 1.9.36 व्यवहितपृतनामुखं निरीक्ष्य स्वजनवधाद्विमुखस्य दोषबुद्ध्या । कुमतिमहरदात्मविद्यया य- श्चरणरति: परमस्य तस्य मेऽस्तु ॥ ३६ ॥
vyavahita-pṛtanā-mukhaṁ nirīkṣya sva-jana-vadhād vimukhasya doṣa-buddhyā kumatim aharad ātma-vidyayā yaś caraṇa-ratiḥ paramasya tasya me ’stu
And when his friend the hostile force surveyed, Who were his own kinsmen, he was dismayed; And was by error and folly confused, And the stern engagement would have refused, But the Lord him with divine wisdom cheered, May his feet by me be with love revered.

In order to fulfil my earnest vow, His own resolution did disavow; And leapt he from his car in mighty rage, And reared his discus, ready to engage; Like a fierce lion on his prey intent, Assails the regal tusker elephant; And as he did before me forward bound, His upper garment trailed along the ground.
ŚB 1.9.38 शितविशिखहतो विशीर्णदंश: क्षतजपरिप्लुत आततायिनो मे । प्रसभमभिससार मद्वधार्थं स भवतु मे भगवान् गतिर्मुकुन्द: ॥ ३८ ॥ śita-viśikha-hato viśīrṇa-daṁśaḥ kṣataja-paripluta ātatāyino me prasabham abhisasāra mad-vadhārthaṁ sa bhavatu me bhagavān gatir mukundaḥ
Ah me! confronting him upon the field, I launched my sharp arrows and smashed his shield; And wounded him, which roused his angry mood, And drew from him a stream of flowing blood; His fury thus awakened in the strife, He purposed to deprive me of my life; May that Mukunda become pleased with me, And be my final end and destiny.

ŚB 1.9.39 विजयरथकुटुम्ब आत्ततोत्रे धृतहयरश्मिनि तच्छ्रियेक्षणीये । भगवति रतिरस्तु मे मुमूर्षो- र्यमिह निरीक्ष्य हता गता: स्वरूपम् ॥ ३९ ॥ vijaya-ratha-kuṭumbha ātta-totre dhṛta-haya-raśmini tac-chriyekṣaṇīye bhagavati ratir astu me mumūrṣor yam iha nirīkṣya hatā gatāḥ sva-rūpam Upon Vijaya's car, with filial care, He did the reigns and whip in his hands bare To guide the steeds; a sight worthy to see, Such sublime beauty and divinity. May I, about to die, his love attain, Whose foes are blest when they by him are slain.
ŚB 1.9.40 ललितगतिविलासवल्गुहास- प्रणयनिरीक्षणकल्पितोरुमाना: । कृतमनुकृतवत्य उन्मदान्धा: प्रकृतिमगन् किल यस्य गोपवध्व: ॥ ४० ॥ lalita-gati-vilāsa-valguhāsa- praṇaya-nirīkṣaṇa-kalpitorumānāḥ kṛtam anukṛtavatya unmadāndhāḥ prakṛtim agan kila yasya gopa-vadhvaḥ The cowherd brides were highly glorified, By their love immaculate dignified; Absorbed in his love gestures and sweet grace, In the delightsome beauty of his face, And imitated how he moved and smiled, And by their love-frenzy where thus beguiled.
ŚB 1.9.41 मुनिगणनृपवर्यसङ्कुलेऽन्त: सदसि युधिष्ठिरराजसूय एषाम् । अर्हणमुपपेद ईक्षणीयो मम दृशिगोचर एष आविरात्मा ॥ ४१ ॥ muni-gaṇa-nṛpa-varya-saṅkule ’ntaḥ- sadasi yudhiṣṭhira-rājasūya eṣām arhaṇam upapeda īkṣaṇīyo mama dṛśi-gocara eṣa āvir ātmā In the concourse of great sages and kings, When Yudhisthir preffered his offerings, In the grand sacred Rajasuya rite, All onlookers were filled with vast delight. Then he received first honour as was due; Lo! now he stands before my direct view. ŚB 1.9.42 तमिममहमजं शरीरभाजां हृदि हृदि धिष्ठितमात्मकल्पितानाम् । प्रतिदृशमिव नैकधार्कमेकं समधिगतोऽस्मि विधूतभेदमोह: ॥ ४२ ॥ tam imam aham ajaṁ śarīra-bhājāṁ hṛdi hṛdi dhiṣṭhitam ātma-kalpitānām pratidṛśam iva naikadhārkam ekaṁ samadhi-gato ’smi vidhūta-bheda-mohaḥ That birthless one his grace to me imparts, Who dwells in bodies, in the heart of hearts; Who as the Self supreme in all abides, And as the One, in many parts divides; As even by reflected light, the Sun Is seen in receptacles, yet is one. May my meditation in him abide, From notions of difference purified.
ŚB 1.9.43 सूत उवाच कृष्ण एवं भगवति मनोवाग्दृष्टिवृत्तिभि: । आत्मन्यात्मानमावेश्य सोऽन्त:श्वास उपारमत् ॥ ४३ ॥ sūta uvāca kṛṣṇa evaṁ bhagavati mano-vāg-dṛṣṭi-vṛttibhiḥ ātmany ātmānam āveśya so ’ntaḥśvāsa upāramat Suta said; His faculties of mind and speech and sight, Were absorbed in Krishna, of potent might; His self within the self thus holding fast, The noble god-like Bhishma breathed his last.
In support of the use of 'preffered' there is a line in Dryden's Virgil. ' His hands to heav'n, and this request preffer'd.' Aeneid Book II

As Vasudeva's sons were entering, Surrounded by their friends, O god-like king, The city women hastened forth to see, And eager mount their roof-top balcony. 24 Some put their clothes on inside out, and some, Forgetful, had put the wrong garment on; The pairs of ornaments were lost or mixed, With but one earring and one anklet fixed; Another damsel in her haste to fly, With collyrium anointed one eye. 25 This one forsook her meal and made her way, Another, quite impatient of delay, Was rubbed with oil, but roused and distracted, Abandoned her bath while away she sped; Another, while she slept in soft repose, Was wakened by the clamour and arose; And fond mothers put suckling babes aside, And stirred with excitement, away they hied. 26

Here are the verses that where done earlier that immediately precede those posted just now. 24-26. These being 20-23 provide a brief description of Madhu puri or Mathura as Krishna enters for the first time.
Thereon he did the great city behold, With crystal towers and big gates of gold; As thro' the outer high rampart they pass, With magazines for storage made of brass, And deep moats circumfluent for defence, With many a grove and delightsome pleasance; With glist'ning cross ways, stately piles and domes, Guild houses, assembly halls, private homes; Balconies with carved architrave inlaid, Which the sheen of pure massy gold displayed; The elegant structures with diamonds bright, Were set with crystal quartz and lazulite, With portico and shady colonnade, And floors with gem studded mosaic inlaid; The peacocks and the doves upon the cotes, Pour forth merry melodies from their throats; The royal road, market streets, and byways, Were well swept and cleansed with watery sprays. The vestibules and open courtyards round, Were strewn with rice and barly on the ground; Large pots of yogurt, and the sandal scent, And rows of bright lamps which their lustre lent. The entranceses of each house was well swept, Where Plantain and Betel nut trees were kept. With pendant wreaths each door was garlanded, With flags and awnings flutt'ring overhead.

Resuming the narrative,
His noble bearing and his deportment Were as the regal tusker elephant; With lovesome glances and fond smiles elate, He did affect their minds and captivate. Thus the Lotus-eyed Lord of Goddess Shri, Afforded to their eyes festivity. 27
Since many times and oft of him they heard, Their minds were melted and their hearts were stirred, The nectar of his smiles and looks received, And honoured thus, the highest joy conceived; Thro' portals of their eyes they drew him in, Which caused the hairs to rise upon their skin; His joyful inner embrace having gained, Oh foe subduer! they were no more pained. 28
These lovesome damsels clomb the rooftops there, With blooming faces as the lotus fair, And threw flowers upon the brothers twain, Bala and Keshava, who forward came. 29

Come now, good man, give unto us to wear, The well suited garments you carry there, And by this gift you shall yourself attain Doubtless benefit and the highest gain. 33
Having been thus addressed in words serene, By him who is almighty and supreme, The haughty servant of the king, in pride, With vituperate invective replied. 34
What! you rustics on hills and in forests fare, But now presume royal raiment to wear; In foolish impudence you ask of me, The monarch's weeds and royal property. 35 Be gone I say, avaunt, avoid the strife, Ask not such things if you value your life! The agents of the king who rules the state, Will take and kill you, and expropriate. 36
While thus he vented forth his haughty word, Devaki's son grew angry as he heard, Insensed by what the washerman had said, Slapped him with his hand and struck off his head. 37
