यत्पादपङ्कजपलाशविलासभक्त्या कर्माशयं ग्रथितमुद्ग्रथयन्ति सन्त: । तद्वन्न रिक्तमतयो यतयोऽपि रुद्ध स्रोतोगणास्तमरणं भज वासुदेवम् ॥ ३९ ॥ yat-pāda-paṅkaja-palāśa-vilāsa-bhaktyā karmāśayaṁ grathitam udgrathayanti santaḥ tadvan na rikta-matayo yatayo ’pi ruddha- sroto-gaṇās tam araṇaṁ bhaja vāsudevam
Santkumara to Adiraja Prithu.
Those tranquil ones who relish nectar sweet, In service of his lotus petal feet, For them the bonds are severed at the root, Of previous action and karma's fruit; But wise ascetics this cannot attain, Hence worship of Vasudeva maintain.

Sanatkumara concludes his sermon to Adiraja Prithu.
It is exceeding hard to gain egress From this sea of existential distress, Without the Lord's favour whoso embarks, The six adversaries attack like sharks; Thus fraught with danger, hard to stay afloat; Betake yourself to Hari as a boat; The Illustrious worship and adore, And he will rescue you and take you o'er.

I suppose one might safely assume that Raja Kulashekhara was inspired by the Bhagavat verse above. Or at least the reader can detect a similar or parallel conceit

वासुदेवे भगवति भक्तियोग: समाहित: । सध्रीचीनेन वैराग्यं ज्ञानं च जनयिष्यति ॥ ३७ ॥ vāsudeve bhagavati bhakti-yogaḥ samāhitaḥ sadhrīcīnena vairāgyaṁ jñānaṁ ca janayiṣyati
When yoga of devotion is applied To Vasudeva, all is well supplied, It generates dispassion sans delay, And wisdom in its fullness doth convey. 37
सोऽचिरादेव राजर्षे स्यादच्युतकथाश्रय: । शृण्वत: श्रद्दधानस्य नित्यदा स्यादधीयत: ॥ ३८ ॥ so ’cirād eva rājarṣe syād acyuta-kathāśrayaḥ śṛṇvataḥ śraddadhānasya nityadā syād adhīyataḥ
Straightway, O sage-like king, deep faith appears, For one who accounts of Acyuta hears, And on the path to perfection proceeds By daily hearing of his hallowed deeds. 38
यत्र भागवता राजन् साधवो विशदाशया: । भगवद्गुणानुकथनश्रवणव्यग्रचेतस: ॥ ३९ ॥ yatra bhāgavatā rājan sādhavo viśadāśayāḥ bhagavad-guṇānukathana- śravaṇa-vyagra-cetasaḥ
Wherever great devotees congregate, Holy, broad-minded, and compassionate, To glorify the Lord's graces are stirred, And talks on his deeds are eagerly heard. 39
तस्मिन्महन्मुखरिता मधुभिच्चरित्र- पीयूषशेषसरित: परित: स्रवन्ति । ता ये पिबन्त्यवितृषो नृप गाढकर्णै- स्तान्न स्पृशन्त्यशनतृड्भयशोकमोहा: ॥ ४० tasmin mahan-mukharitā madhubhic-caritra- pīyūṣa-śeṣa-saritaḥ paritaḥ sravanti tā ye pibanty avitṛṣo nṛpa gāḍha-karṇais tān na spṛśanty aśana-tṛḍ-bhaya-śoka-mohāḥ
From mouths of great ones nectar doth issue, As the accounts of him who Madhu slew, Like streams of sweetness imbibed through the ears, They are, O king, relieved of all dread fears, Nor are they touched by hunger, woe or thirst, All sorrow and illusion are dispersed. 40

Book V of the Bhagavat opens with an inquiry from the king regarding the conduct of Raja Priyavrata, touched upon at the end of Book IV. A considerable portion of Book V is composed unmetered in prose, not verse, which is to say, gadya, not padya. This little extract shows the transition from verse to prose.
(The Raja said) The great devotee, Priyavrata hight, Always revelled in the Self with delight, How did he take to the householder's life, The root of action's bondage and of strife?1
O best of twice-born, 'tis a certainty, Those who are from worldly attachment free, Fond attachment their minds cannot constrain The vulgar joy of home life to maintain. 2
Certainly, those great ones, O holy seer, For whom Uttama-sloka's feet are dear, Whose minds are there reposed and satisfied, Cares not for joy that relatives provide. 3
O Brahman, this raises great doubt for me; One bound to wife, home, sons and family, As he it seems became, how could he gain Perfection and to Acyuta attain? 4
(Sri Suka said) What you say is certainly true, however, sometimes, for a term, one whose mind has been immersed in imbibing the delectable flowing nectar distilled from the lotus-feet of him who is praised in excellent verses by the discipline of hearing and reciting, though distracted by some impediment for an indeterminate period, does not forfeit his auspicious exalted station.......

ŚB 1.11.1/2 सूत उवाच आनर्तान् स उपव्रज्य स्वृद्धाञ्जनपदान्स्वकान् । दध्मौ दरवरं तेषां विषादं शमयन्निव ॥ १ ॥ sūta uvāca ānartān sa upavrajya svṛddhāñ jana-padān svakān dadhmau daravaraṁ teṣāṁ viṣādaṁ śamayann iva
Arriving in his opulent domain, Where good fortune and prosperity reign; He blew a blast on his lovely conch shell, The grief of his dependents to dispel. 1
स उच्चकाशे धवलोदरो दरो- ऽप्युरुक्रमस्याधरशोणशोणिमा । दाध्मायमान: करकञ्जसम्पुटे यथाब्जखण्डे कलहंस उत्स्वन: ॥ २ ॥ sa uccakāśe dhavalodaro daro ’py urukramasyādharaśoṇa-śoṇimā dādhmāyamānaḥ kara-kañja-sampuṭe yathābja-khaṇḍe kala-haṁsa utsvanaḥ

May the Lord save me in difficulty In the woods, and facing the enemy; May Man-lion protect me on each side, By whose roaring demons are terrified, Whose loud laughter reverberating round, Made wives of the demon's fall to the ground, Oppressed with the sense of impending doom, Miscarry the embryos in their womb. 14

May Sanat Kumara safety impart, And shield me from Cupids' flowery dart; May the Horse-headed one my conscience guard From showing divinities slight regard; May the best of god-like sages protect, That I my practises may not neglect, And in the Supreme Lords' devout worship, I make no transgression or clumsy slip; And may Hari as Turtle with a shell, Save me from falling into deepest hell. 17

May Dvaipayana, of great intellect, From ignorance of holy writ protect; May Buddha too, who ignorance dispels, Save me from the deluded infidels; And may Kalki, righteousness to maintain, Incarnated to remove Kalis' distain, Save me from insufferable distress, And uphold principles of righteousness. 19

O Discus! like the worlds' ending hot blaze, Circling and keen edged, shining with bright rays; Set into motion by the Supreme Lord, To burn and devastate the hostile horde; Our enemies like dry straw scorch and burn, Like the Wind's friend, and into ashes turn. 23
O mighty club! of ponderous weight and dire, Whose clashing shock emits great sparks of fire, Bear down upon my enemies and pound, Pound them to pieces on the dusty ground; O beloved of the Lord, crush and smite The Kushmandas and Vinayakas hight; Destroy the Yaksa and the Raksa hosts, The Graha demons and the evil ghosts! 24

The Illustrious one in truth exists, In whom the gross and the subtle subsists; By operation of that truth may he, Eliminate all our calamity. 31
Though the Self undifferentiated, He is in many forms manifested, With ornaments, weapons and unique signs, And possessed of his own energy shines. He is thereby the truth preeminent, Illustrious Hari, omniscient,; May he bestow on us protective grace, By every means, who goes to every place. 32/33
In all the cardinal directions round, Above, below, on all sides, on the ground; Within and without and in every place, Is the Mighty one with the Lions' face; Who in wondrous fearful aspect appears, Whose roaring for Prahlad fills all with fears; Whose potent power bright illuminates, And all other puissant force dissipates. 34

Some verses about Prahlada. Narada to Yudhisthira;
His countless virtues none could estimate; That glory of his greatness indicate; Who with pure love spontaneous adored Illustrious Vasudeva, the Lord.
Who even as a child from play refrained, And like a mute in abstraction remained; Whose mind was by Krishna seized and possessed, And knew not the world outward manifest.
He sat or walked or dined or laid him down, Or drank or spoke like an automaton; And acts apposite to the time and place, Held always in Govinda's firm embrace.
Sometimes on Vaikuntha his mind he kept, And in extreme anxiety he wept; Sometimes in profound meditation he Was filled with mirth and sang and laughed in glee.

As goldsmiths smelt from stone the precious ore, And by such means increase of gold the store, On likewise those with self-knowledge endued, As soul embodied, by right means pursued, And by communion with the self maintained, For him the state of Brahman is attained.
