Thanks for your suggestions, madanmohanji. I will give them serious consideration as I rework the text for publication. Thanks too for the heads up on typos.
I have been working on more. When I get another substantial amount done I will post it. So far I have been concentrating on Sridhara's commentary to the first verse. It is usually long. Then there is Srinatha Cakravartin's which maybe a little longer. I like to switch back a forth between the 1st Canto and the 10th. Eventually I will add the comms. in the 10th as well.

More coming shortly. I hope to finish Sridhara's comm. on 1.1.1, soon, and start Srinatha's. More will be done on the 10th Canto, too.
Guess I like disembodied over unbodied. It reminds of the position Allen Ginsburg held at the Naropa Institute: Dean of the School of Disembodied Poets.

There is a new version of the translation available. I have cleaned it up some and pushed it a bit further. Now, Sridhara on 1.1.1 is completely done and I have started Srinatha. I have also added some to the first chapter of of the 10th book. Not done with that yet, will be by next posting.
As usual, comments and criticism appreciated.

Here is an update of this project. It still has some gaps in it, but I think I will try to first produce a new translation of the text itself, just the text. Then I I will go back and put in the commentary of Sridhara and Srinatha. Since I already have some of their comments included in the text, I will just complete those and work on the translation of the main text for now. I am continuing to work on this translation of the Bhagavata. I don't know why, perhaps because of recently undertaking the chanting of it, but the Bhagavata has been calling to me lately. I want to produce a full translation of the text and all it major CV commentaries. I know that is a huge task and that there is high likelihood that I will not finish it. Still, in a certain sense I have no choice. All I can do it try. I also know that huge projects like this are best tackled in small steps. That is what I plan to do. First a translation of the text with notes; then one by one the addition of the commentaries, and all with the original Sanskrit present along side the English. This is necessary because any English translation, even the best, is only an approximation of the original. The original should be there for future improvements and alternative interpretations. Since I have become adept at type-setting and producing books of this sort and it is now possible to do it inexpensively, the issuing of numerous volumes and new editions of a text like the Bhagavata is not difficult. That is how I hope to spend my remaining years. This does not mean that I will stop working on my other projects (The Songs of Govinda Das, etc), but the Bhagavata seems like such a central current of Vaisnava Bhakti that it will occupy the central place in my remaining working life.
That said, I must say that I am having some difficulty translating parts of Sri Nathacakravartin's commentary. I have struggled with one passage for over a week and I am still not sure what it means. It is about the holy dhama which Srinathaji says is referenced by tejovArimRdAM yathA vinimayo yatra trisargo 'mRSA According to Srinatha this is not about the phenomenal world but about the holy dhama mentioned in dhAmnA svena. Yatra refers to the holy dhama. So in the holy dhama, the trisaga, triple creation, is real (not false). This seems reasonable enough. The problem is that the example points in another direction. tejovArimRdAM yathA vinimayo, just as fire, water, and earth are exchanged (confused?) with each other. This would indicate a lack of reality and Srinatha defines vinimaya as the perception of a thing in what is not that thing. So how do we get to the reality of the trisarga in the dhama through the perception of something in something that it is not? This is the question. Anyway, I am working on it. A solution will come sooner or later.
By the way, it is now not possible to download any of the texts on this site because the account I used to store them in has been (temporarily, I hope) suspended. It appears that that account has somehow been compromised. Someone has managed, according to my step-son, to put a phishing webpage there that aims at scamming people out of their account ids and passwords. How it got there I don't know, but until we can rid ourselves of it and fix the security of the account, it will be closed. Hopefully, we can get this resolved in a few days. Until then none of the texts I have made available through this site will be downloadable and even the background picture will not work. This site itself is completely different from the one that has been suspended so none of the members have anything to worry about.

I have basically finished Chapter 3 of the First Skandha and Chapter One of the 10th Skandha. More notes need to be added to both of those chapters. Zanaih zanaih! In the wings are Chapters 4 and 2. I have decided to do a chapter of the early purana along with a chapter of the 10th. That way the text will progress along two fronts. Pay no attention to the current state of chapters 4 and 2. That is their raw forms. Gradually I will sort them out and translated them.

I wrote the intro. It is obviously far from complete. Perhaps in the next iteration I will have more done.
I have decided that the project is at present too ambitious for me. Instead, I am going to try to accomplish it in smaller steps:
1. Complete translation of the main text with notes from Srinatha 2. Skandha by skandha I will add the comms of Sridhara and Srinatha and their translations 3 Same for Sri Jiva's Krama sandarbha and Visvanatha Cakravartin 4 Other comms in the CV tradition if they seem to add something.
The eventual outcome should be a set of books with complete CV commentarial tradition in readable English.
Anyone want to help?

Nitai ji, I can try to help. What kind of help do you want? Well, in the long term, learn some Sanskrit just as you were planning. A couple of years of study ought to be enough to get you started. In the meantime, you probably already know the scripts, right (Devanagari and/or Bengali)? Do you want to type some text for me? I need the commentaries typed into unicode Roman or the Velthuis scheme (look it up). That way I don't have to spend time typing when I could be translating. Some of the comms are already available thanks to the work of Jagatji, but some need to be done still. Let me know if this sounds like something you would like to do.

I know Devanagari, but not Bengali. Yes I will look them up. It will give a good motivation to learn Sanskrit faster.
