Since some of us here knew the late Dr. Kapoor (myself only briefly from a few short conversations), and considering that he was a 20th century philosopher and author of The Philosophy and Religion of Sri Caitanya, I thought it only important to discuss his contribution to the English language body of work on CV.

Since some of us here knew the late Dr. Kapoor (myself only briefly from a few short conversations), and considering that he was a 20th century philosopher and author of The Philosophy and Religion of Sri Caitanya, I thought it only important to discuss his contribution to the English language body of work on CV. I thought this thread would pick up, as some members here most likely met Dr. Kapoor and others, who certainly read his books. I actually had the great fortune to meet him on 1997, we spoke for awhile. I asked what he thinks about harmony between the different Maths and Vaishnava groups, and he answered that it is up to each individual to harmonize within, for there is no much hope for external harmony. I also asked about nowadays pure devotees, and he answered that in Kali-Yuga it is really rare to find a soul with a pure heart, but there are pure devotees, but we have to be honest and pray to find them. Here are others, who most evidently met Dr. OBL Kapoor, for this interview was published in 1992: Steven Rosen: Have you heard that this verse from the Padma Purana the one you quoted has been brought into question by Stuart Elkman and even by O. B. L. Kapoor? They say that they can't actually find it. Dr. Deadwyler: Yes, present-day scholars have claimed that current editions of the Padma Purana don't include that verse. That may be so. But it's quoted by Madhvacarya and other early writers. Steven Rosen: Kavi Karnapura quotes it. Read more about The Sampradaya of Sri Caitanya

It's been a little while since I read Dr. Kapoor's books, so I don't have much to say about them now except that I found the two I read quite good. However, I had quite a bit of association with him in Vrindaban in the early 1970s. He was a friend and a mentor to me. He was very gracious and welcoming.
I am most indebted to him for pointing me to ekadas bhav initiatiion and my guru, Lalita Prasad Thakur. He told me to ask my then guru, Bhaktivedanta Swami, for the initiation or permission to get it. I knew what the outcome of that would be, so I asked him to be my advocate. He agreed but without sucess.
