This is a thread on an article I am writing Vipinavihari-Gosvami.pdf (108.92 KB) on Vipinavihari Gosvami and his community of Vaisnavas at Baghnapara. I was asked to write this by Steve Rosen for the Journal of Vaisnava Studies, but when he saw the article and realized that it describes at the end the rejection of Bhaktivinoda by Vipinavihari, he did not want to publish it. So much for loyalty to the truth. The truth is only welcome as a guest if it agrees to be convenient. He did not want to publish Jagat's essay on Bhaktivinoda either because Jagat pointed out the three texts that Bhaktivinoda fabricated and attributed to others.
I decided I would continue working on it and make it available when I was finished. I am not quite finished. There are a few more paragraphs to add and perhaps in an expanded version a discussion of the pet theology of the Baghnapara Gosvamis which is called "Rasaraja." At present I don't see how it differs very much from the Gosvamis of Vrndavana and their ideas about rasa and Krsna's relationship to rasa. At any rate it demands further study. For now, this is what I have. I will update it in a week or so. Please download the article, read it, and send it on to others. If you have questions or comments, please post them on this thread.

Here is an updated version of the Vipinavihari-Gosvami.pdf (114.31 KB) essay. I have nearly finished. I am considering adding one more section or, if it turns out to be more complex, a separate paper on the Rasaraja theology that is said to be the special contribution of the Baghnapara Goswamis. First I have to read the Vamsi-siksa of Premadasa to see if I can see any major differences from what I consider to be the standard theology of the Caitanya tradition.
